Basic Information
Samuchit Enviro-Tech Private Limited (SET) is a private limited company. Its objective is re-establishment of rural entrepreneurship based on appropriate technology. It works as a commercial partner of Appropriate Rural Technology Institute (ARTI) for commercialising its energy technologies. Its current focus is on biomass fueled cooking devices for rural and periurban households in India in general, and in Maharashtra and Gujarat states in particular. Arti is a registered scientific society and a public trust. Its objective is to develop sustainable technologies for creating opportunities for income generation in rural areas of the developing world. The present mission of the company is to reduce IAP in 1 million rural homes in India (specifically in Maharashtra and Gujarat) , creating incomes and profits for the company and other supply chain partners in the process, over a period of 5 years or so. In the long run, we envision building a profitable business supporting a sustainable network of rural manufacturers and sellers of competitively priced environment-friendly products using renewable sources of energy as well as raw materials. These products include but are not limited to technologies developed by ARTI. The main products of SET are: 1. Improved Laxmi Stove: A two pot hole fixed stove with chimney, constructed out of cement-stone grit mixture. It operates on wood sticks, blocks, cowdung cakes and other woody biomass. The stove reduces indoor air pollution by at least 30% and saves about 50% fuel. This is manufactured and installed by local potters using spare parts supplied by SET. 2. Gasifier stoves: These are portable metallic stoves of various designs. Sampada and Agni stoves operate on wood twigs, chips, or small blocks. Vivek stove operates on sawdust or other powdery or light biomass waste. These are clean burning stoves emitting less than 20 g of carbon monoxide and less than 1200 mg of particulate matter while cooking 5 lit of food. 3. Sarai cooking system: A portable stainless steel steam cooking device, operating on charcoal or char briquettes. This comes in three different sizes. The fuel required is very less as the steam cooker also partially operates like a hotbox, i. E. , cooking on retained heat. It has been tested to be one of the cleanest ways of using charcoal for cooking. Both gasifier stoves and Sarai cooking system are marketed through the conventional distributor-dealer network.
